ZEONEX and ZEONOR Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) are ultra-low dielectric loss tangent resins that combine low dielectric constant properties with the ease and cost-effectiveness of being injection moldable.
COP resins are ideal for embedded 3G/4G, WiFi and Bluetooth antenna applications in mobile phones, smart phones, handheld games/MP3 players. Additionally, COP resins bring benefit as the dielectric in high-frequency RF-connectors.
ZEONEX and ZEONOR provide:
• Low dielectric constant (2.3) • Very low dielectric loss tangent (0.0002) •
Stable frequency shift after high humidity exposure
• Injection moldable

ZEONEX RS420 and ZEONOR 1420R have a dielectric constant similar to PTFE. The dielectric constant is less than conventional plastic materials, including PC/ABS.
The dielectric loss tangent of ZEONEX and ZEONOR is ~ 0.0002. This low value enables for replacement of machined PTFE connectors for high frequency coaxial cable dielectrics and for mobile phone antennas that have improved efficiency.
ZEONEX RS420 exhibits low dielectric loss tangent values across a wide range of frequencies from below 1 GHz to >25 GHz. As the figure below shows, the dielectric properties are superior to PC/ABS and similar to PTFE.
Engineers designing antennas and coaxial cable dielectrics need to be concerned about changes to the efficiency of the dielectric material under high humidity environments.
ZEONEX RS420 shows stable performance after high humidity (95% rH) exposure. In comparison, PC/ABS exhibits a shift in dielectric properties and effectively de-tuning the antenna system. In addition, PC/ABS materials are susceptible to a significant increase in loss due to a moisture absorption rate of up to 0.4%. In contrast, use of COP as a direct replacement of PC/ABS in mobile device antennas has proven to show an increase of 10% in total dB gain.
COP is a thermoplastic resin that is readily injection moldable. In comparison, PTFE cannot be injection molded and dielectric components must be machined or fabricated, at added complexity and cost.
ZEONEX RS420 and ZEONOR 1420R are capable of being precision molded with fine, micro-scale features. The molding of COP is superior to that of PC and PC/ABS. In some cases, ZEONOR can utilize existing injection mold tooling which was designed for other thermoplastic materials, such as PC/ABS.
The above data are typical properties and should not be construed as specifications for the noted products.
